No, not at all. Zappi works just like a regular charging station—from 7 kW to 22 kW (continuously adjustable)—even without solar panels. A major advantage is that you can always charge safely thanks to its load-balancing technology. Zappi also lets you charge more affordably thanks to its automatic integration with a dynamic energy contract, which charges your vehicle when rates are at their lowest.

We recommend having your Zappi installed by a certified installer. You will need at least one separate circuit in your fuse box with a Type A ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) rated for a minimum of 20A and a maximum of 32A, Curve B.

Each Zappi comes with 1 CT for the single-phase version and 3 CTs for the three-phase version.

With zappi, you can charge your vehicle in the most cost-effective way by taking advantage of dynamic rates. Several energy suppliers offer special contracts under which you pay a different rate every hour, depending on the wholesale price. This rate is determined 24 hours in advance based on consumption, sunlight, wind, and other parameters. Through an automatic link to this purchase price, zappi can decide on your behalf which rates are most favorable and whether to postpone or start charging. This way, you’ll have a full battery every day, but you’ll pay significantly less.

In all cases, the vehicle—the EV—is the limiting factor. Some EVs cannot be charged using a 3-phase connection and can therefore only be charged using a 1-phase connection. The current supply is also limited by the EV; it is usually 16A, 30A, or 32A. If your EV can be charged with a three-phase connection, zappi has the capability to charge at a slower rate by using only the single-phase connection. This is a major advantage over other brands, allowing our zappi to charge using smaller solar panel systems starting at just 1.4 kW.

No, when charging using three-phase power, the charging rate will be determined by the phase with the lowest available power rating. The EV can only charge if all phases are the same.

Yes, it will then function as a standard single-phase Zappi. However, only the single CT input will be available. In most cases, it will then be necessary to use a Harvi.

NOTE for Belgian users: It is not possible to use a 3-phase Zappi on a power grid with 3 x 230V without a neutral wire (as is still the case in some areas of Belgium). Even if your home has a single-phase connection where the power grid does not have a neutral wire, you can only use a single-phase model.

Yes, you can do that with Zappi. The process is very similar, but make sure to connect the CT sensor(s). These are necessary to take full advantage of Zappi’s smart technology. An internet connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) is also recommended for using the app and the My Account page.

It depends on the installation. You can install zappi by using a circuit breaker in your current main electrical system and setting a “Grid Limit,” which ensures that your main fuse does not blow. Alternatively, you can install zappi from a second circuit and connect a sensor that acts as a “Monitor Limit” to ensure that your second main fuse isn’t overloaded, in addition to the “Grid Limit.” It’s a good idea to consult your electrician for these more complex situations.

A 3-phase Zappi connected to a 3-phase electrical system can be set up to charge in ECO mode using only 1 phase. This is very useful when you want to charge at a slow rate to use your surplus energy in ECO mode. This allows you to charge starting at just 1.4 kW of surplus energy and make the most of your own energy generation. Of course, you always have the option to charge faster (up to 22 kW) in FAST mode or by using the Boost function.

As soon as V2G/V2H becomes available on the market, we will certainly expand our product line to incorporate this technology. At the moment, these technologies are only available in the testing phase. Automakers and charging station manufacturers are working closely together to roll this out as quickly as possible, but there are still many challenges to overcome.

For ECO and ECO+ modes, we recommend charging using single-phase power (which happens fully automatically). The advantage is that you can start charging with as little as 1.4 kW of surplus power. The amount of surplus power is measured across 3 phases. The total is then sent to the car via a single phase, so that the balance of the 3 phases on the meter remains at 0 (zero). It therefore does not matter whether a single-phase or a 3-phase inverter is used for the solar panels. Combinations of multiple inverters also do not affect the operation of the ECO / ECO+ charging modes.

CTs can be connected to the main connection, the solar panel inverter, a home battery, or a sub-circuit. With a 3-phase Zappi, the CTs should be connected to the 3-phase main connection (power grid). This can be done via a wired connection within the Zappi or wirelessly via a Harvi. You cannot connect different types of CTs; they must be installed on the same source. This is different for the single-phase version of the Zappi, which can measure three different (single-phase) loads (such as the utility grid, generation, and/or a home battery).

Almost all electric cars can charge using 3-phase, 11 kW charging.
Any car that can charge using 3-phase power can also charge using 1-phase power.
