What are the 5 types of renewable energy?

Types of renewable energy

To reduce CO2 emissions, it is important to switch from fossil fuels to cleaner, green energy. By using energy from renewable sources, we can counteract climate change. There are roughly 5 types of renewable energy. We will explain them all below.

1) Wind energy

Wind energy is generated by wind turbines. These turbines convert the power of the wind into usable energy. It is a clean and sustainable form of energy. It is one of the most important types of renewable energy and is often used in the Netherlands. It is also possible to install a wind turbine at home. However, these often do not produce enough energy to power your entire home.

2) Solar energy

It is estimated that around 1.5 million households in the Netherlands use solar energy by means of their own solar panels. Of all the types of renewable energy, this form is the easiest to generate at home. Solar panels make use of sunlight and convert it into usable energy that you can use at home. Do you want to make maximum use of the energy you generate? This is possible with our innovative zappi. This smart system uses your self-generated solar energy to charge your electric car. Zappi consists of three modes, between which it can easily switch to make the most efficient and effective use of your energy production.

3) Geothermal energy

Geothermal energy literally means geothermal energy. It uses the heat from the earth to generate energy. Using the heat from the ground, you can heat and cool your home with a special geothermal heat pump.

4) Hydroelectricity

When we talk about types of renewable energy, hydroelectricity is not to be missed. It is electricity generated by hydropower and accounts for no less than 71 per cent of renewable energy worldwide.

5) Biomass

Biomass extracts energy from organic sources, such as agricultural crops, kitchen and garden waste and manure. These substances are fermented or gasified into biofuel. When this biofuel is subsequently burned, energy is released.
