Frequently Asked Questions About eddi
The eddi converts energy that is imported and exported from the grid. Energy generated by your PV system or another system that is normally exported is considered surplus.
The eddi uses this surplus energy to charge up to 3.7 kW or for water/home heating, thereby preventing excess energy from being fed back into the grid.
Up to 80% of the energy you generate can be fed back into the grid as excess power. The eddi can help you use 100% of the energy you generate yourself—which is completely free.
With eddi, you can use 100% of your own green energy, which means you can save up to €250 a year with eddi—and even more if you use electricity to heat the water in your home and your home itself. The higher the price you normally pay for your energy, the more you’ll save with eddi.
Absolutely, it's always best to install myenergi products together. You can specify where the energy should go, and eddi and zappi will then work together to use as much free energy as possible.
Varisine technology ensures that the energy from eddi is of the same quality as the electricity that enters your home through the grid. This technology is the reason eddi complies with all CE product directives.
We always recommend that you check whether your products meet the standards. If you choose cheaper energy converters—for example, for your hot water—you may save money initially, but in the long run, it could end up costing you more.
Devices that measure phase angles handle high loads (up to 3 kW), which can cause unwanted harmonic currents in the electrical system. These can cause electrical and radio interference, overheating, and damage to surge arresters and other electrical devices and equipment.
By using PWM (varisine) as a control method, eddi is the only device on the market that complies with legal requirements regarding limits for “harmonic current emissions” and other key EMC standards.
You can still use eddi if you have an electric microgeneration system and the following:
– Electric storage heaters (the eddi is compatible with Economy 7 and 10)
– Electric floor heating
– Space-saving electric heaters
– Any other electric load up to 3.7 kW with a mechanical thermostat
