What charger does the Kia e-Niro use?

The Kia e-Niro is an electric crossover. The e-Niro is fitted with both an AC and a DC charging port, thus allowing it to be charged at both an AC source (such as a home charger), as well as a DC rapid charging station. Being equipped with a Combined Charging System (CCS) charging standard, which consists of a combined AC and DC inlet port.

The top portion of the inlet is for the Type 2 connector, which is used when charging at home or at public slow and fast AC points. The lower section beneath the Type 2 inlet is used to carry high power during rapid DC charging from a CCS connector. A flap behind what would normally be a car’s grille hides the CCS inlet.

Can I charge the Kia e-Niro at home?

The Kia e-Niro can be quickly and effectively charged at home using an EV charger. These are typically 3 or 7kW options. Where is the charging port in the Kia e-Niro

The location of the Kia e-Niro is important. Unlike pulling up at a fuel station where you can select the pump based on the fuel cap location, if you’re looking to install a home EV charger then you will need to be sure this will easily reach the location of your charging port on your electric car.

The Kia e-Niro charging point is located behind a flap of what would normally be a car’s front grille. This is in a different position to the typical rear of the car area used for petrol and diesel vehicles – so make sure you consider that and how you park when installing a home charger.
